Email Group

Members may recall that last year we carried out a survey of members. Looking at the results of that survey, it was very clear that lots of you found it difficult to post offers and wants on Cyclos. This was discussed at the recent AGM and it was decided that we needed a different way to post offers and wants, particularly as this difficulty seems to have led to a reduction in trading.

After much discussion, it was decided that we would have an email group to post offers and wants (Cyclos will continue to be used for buzzard payments).

If you do not want your email address to be used in this way please let Jane or Jean know by Friday 15th June. You can contact us via Cyclos or use the email addresses below.

Election of officers at the AGM

Sonja (121) has left Leighton Buzzard and so has resigned as sterling treasurer and Joan (156) has resigned as buzzard treasurer. Thanks were given to both for their work in these posts. Valerie (258) has volunteered to take over as buzzard treasurer and Jean (82) volunteered to take on the role of sterling treasurer.

Jean (82) and Jane (118) have jointly taken on the role of coordinator. Bob (117) is continuing as membership officer and Sue is continuing as social media officer.

Past Events

Recently 5 members, which included 2 of our 6 recent new members, spent a lovely day with Hemplets (Hemel Hempstead) members who trade in hemps. The day was organised by Janet (102) who is a member of both Letsbuzz and Hemplets.

The trading was frantic: it was like arriving at a car boot sale and people swooping on your goods as you unloaded the car, in this case a box on to the table top. This was followed by a fantastic spread for lunch made by the Hemplets group which was mainly home grown. An after lunch walk followed through the bluebells in Ashridge Park, to work up an appetite for a cream tea. We left full and relaxed having made new friends.

LEIGHTON BUZZARD VOLUNTARY PATIENT TRANSPORT

Due to its success, LBVPT are looking for more volunteer drivers and call handlers. Do you have any spare time you could volunteer? Full training given – please call 078 73 49 76 33

Leighton Buzzard Voluntary Patient Transport (LBVPT) has celebrated its first anniversary and established itself as a reliable service for those who have difficulty in getting to our local hospitals. It provides transport to Milton Keynes, Stoke Mandeville, Amersham, High Wycombe, Luton & Dunstable and Bedford hospitals 6 days a week for outpatient appointments.

This is a widely welcomed initiative in response to PPG awareness of the need of many patients in Leighton Buzzard for transport to hospital appointments. Volunteer drivers take patients who do not qualify for NHS non-emergency free transport, but may well find public transport difficult and do not have available friends and family. LBVPT do suggest a voluntary donation to cover their costs.

One of our patients describes her experience “We ‘phoned to ask for transport to Stoke Mandeville Haematology Dept. for an appointment at 8.45 a.m. We were taken through the early morning traffic. The kind driver ‘phoned the day before to reassure us he would come at 7.45 a.m. He knew exactly where to take us, stayed with us and then brought us home..
